Frederick Oktoberfest 2015

An event worth photographing

Saturday, October 3, I had the opportunity to help with a community activity that has gained enormous traction over the nine years of it’s existence – Frederick’s own two-day Oktoberfest.  Primarily sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek#2f2d17;”> and the #000000;”>Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County, the proceeds of the event are designated to a long list of Rotary recipients.   You can find a list of those benefitting from Oktoberfest by scrolling down the page at http://www.frederickoktoberfest.org/event-info/history/

You’ll also learn about the history and origins of over 200 years of Oktoberfest in Germany.

Usually the Frederick Oktoberfest is held at a mix of indoor and outdoor locations around the Great Frederick Fairgrounds, but due to the arrival of Hurricane Joaquin the same weekend, this year the entire event was moved indoors, to the Main Hall, and three adjacent buildings.  Despite concerns over wet weather, flooding and cold having a negative impact on attendance, from all I could see during my volunteer stint early Saturday afternoon, this year was another great success for families and participants of all ages.
