On December 4, I had the chance to photograph behind the scenes for a group of friends and fellow creatives—one of the many things I love about working in the Frederick imaging community.

A Rich Creative Environment
Frederick has an unusually strong network of photographers, videographers, and other visual creatives. There’s a genuine sense of camaraderie here: we collaborate, share ideas, test gear together, and support each other’s projects. It’s a gift to have colleagues who truly understand the work we do, and several of them make an appearance in this post.

For this session, Sam Levitan rented Studio B at Lockhouse Studios to test lighting equipment he’s considering for an upcoming assignment. He opened the invite to all of us—come experiment, bring our own gear to play with, or simply lend a hand.
A Community of Friends

As a result, the images from this behind-the-scenes shoot feature a handful of familiar faces:
• Sam Levitan, photographer and instigator of the session
• Jason Cline, owner of Lockhouse Studios
• Robin Farrell, videographer/video editor and one of my regular collaborators
• George, photographer, digital tech and freelance assistant to Sam
• Chrissy Szemere Miller, photographer and occasional assistant, regrettably not pictured, probably because she and I stood in the back and chatted while I occasionally grabbed a shot. My bad.

Sessions like this remind me how fortunate we are to have such a connected, supportive creative community—and how much fun it is to work together, even when the goal is simply to experiment and learn.

While this post is a heartfelt expression of my gratitude for the Frederick photographic community, I want to remind you that your photographic needs are always my priority.
